Fund 4 Trees Belfast Abseil Event

Arbortec is to sponsor a first-of-its-kind event: a sponsored abseil off a prime Belfast building, the Europa Hotel, taking place on 14th June 2015. The event is being organised by Fund 4 Trees, a charity promoting sustainable treescapes (trees in our landscapes) by:

  • promoting for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by promoting sustainable treescapes.
  • further educating the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of trees in the physical and natural environment.
  • advancing research for the public benefit in all aspects of trees and to publish useful findings.

Details of the Fund 4 Trees Abseil are still being finalised and will be published here as soon as they are but the idea is that the abseil will be completed by professionals working in forestry and arboriculture who are sponsored by friends, businesses and members of the public. Local schools and communities will be involved. All proceeds go to scientists working to secure a sustainable future  for our treescapes.

Irish Forestry Show 2015

The Irish Forestry, Woodland and Bio-Energy Show (to give it its full and splendid title) is one for the diary; to be held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May 2015 at the beautiful Stradbally Hall Estate in Co. Laois. This is great show to visit, camp in the grounds with fellow arborists – beers around the camp fire – and check out machinery and timber-related goods but more importantly the opportunity to enter the Irish National Tree Climbing Championships sponsored by Husqvarna. For more details go to http://www.ifwshow.ie

Funding

Potential funding may be available to you as a trainee wishing to undertake training or as an employer wishing to train up potential new members of staff.

To be eligible you generally have to be unemployed for at least a year and if the cost is over £500 it helps if you have an employer behind you willing to offer a job upon completion. There are other circumstances where you would be automatically eligible (i.e. barriers including homelessness, drug & alcohol misuse), plus anyone aged 18-24 is automatically eligible.

Arbortec has been made aware of this funding opportunity by our local employment support office, Network Personnel, which has branches across Northern Ireland. You may approach them directly in branch or via their website www.networkpersonnel.org.uk

Irish Forestry Show 2013

The Irish Forestry Woodland and Bio Energy Show (www.ifwshow.ie) will be held on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th May 2013 at Stradbally Hall, Co Laois.

The Irish Treecare Association will be running the Irish National Tree Climbing championships here. This will take the form of 5 disciplines: throw line, speed climb, foot lock, work climb and aerial rescue which are timed and scored by judges on day one. The five highest-scoring competitors then go through to the Masters Competition on day two. This could lead to competing in the European Tree Climbing championships held every year. For more information on tree climbing championships, go to www.isa-arbor.com.

As well as bringing together all those involved in the forestry and arboricultural industry to compare notes, it is a lively social weekend; there is camping in the grounds and with a lot of old and new friends getting together the nights are long and the craic is mighty!
